Ian Snell Wants Everyone to Leave Him the Fuck Alone

Pirates starter Ian Snell knows exactly what's to blame for his poor performance against the Cincinnati Reds last night. It wasn't pitch selection, or mechanics, or even the potent Reds line-up that caused him to give-up four runs on seven hits (including three homers) in just six innings. No, it was the fact that his damn teammates and coaches had the nerve to try and talk to him while he was pitching. As Snell told the Post-Gazette's Paul Meyer:

"I don't like people talking to me during games, I'm really upset about it...I go into the dugout after an inning and people are asking me, 'What was that pitch? What was that pitch?' I have a lot of stuff in my brain now. I have to get rid of it."

Snell was particularly irked by pitching coach Jim Colborn's visit to the mound following a two-run homer and a walk.

"I know it's his job to come out and try to calm me down," Snell said. "But it gets on my nerves. It's really bothering me."

For the record, this is the leading game-winner and "ace" of the 2006 Pittsburgh Pirates. What a pro. And anyone dares to wonder why I bestowed the WFTIPS honor on this organization.

I just hope for everyone's sake Snell "gets rid of" all the "stuff" he has on his brain before someone gets killed. If you ask me, the tone of that comment is even creepier than Kellen Winslow's infamous "I'm a soldier! I'm a warrior!" rant from 2003.

On the positive side, it sounds like Jim Tracy never has to worry about Snell tongue kissing him after a big strike-out.
